Our Story...
Hickman Specialists Group was founded on the principles of concentrating specialists in one single location to optimize patient care. Commonly referred to as interdisciplinary care, we focus on communication, not only between the primary dentist and the specialists, but also among the entire healthcare team. Working as part of a cohesive team, our specialists can work alongside your primary dental provider as well as your primary medical provider to develop a treatment plan that meets your specific needs.

Hickman Specialists Group has evolved from the orthodontic office of Dr. James Hickman who has been treating patients at this location for over 35 years. As time has gone by the field of dentistry has changed quite dramatically. The introduction of digital technology, dental implants, and new techniques have left many patients turning to specialists for advanced dental procedures.
As a team of specialists we intend to correct many of the voids left in traditional multi-office care. We feel managing your case from start to finish in one location resolves the issues of miscommunications between the treatment team, eliminates the need to visit a different provider at every stage of treatment, and allows a thorough and complete treatment plan to be developed and acted upon.

We have an open door policy for referring doctors. They are able to come to our office an be as active in your case development and treatment as they like. While not every case needs an entire multidisciplinary team, it can be a great opportunity for the referral network to better understand our process. Our Goals...
The Hickman Specialist Group is a single site specialist dental centre. Our purpose built facility is intended to provide our specialists with the space, tools, and equipment necessary to provide a single point of dental care. Currently we are heavily focussed on specialist orthodontics and continue to offer this core service to both children and adults.
Our goal is to develop a collaborative specialist team to diagnose, treatment plan, and treat advanced dental issues. Not all treatment requires our entire specialist team. However, should the need arise, our patients have the ability to meet with them for an interdisciplinary consultation. This allows the specialist team to collaborate in person and develop a comprehensive treatment plan with improved communication. A single site also allows for treatment progress to be monitored first hand by all of the specialists treating the case. This eliminates the need to schedule additional appointments and visit multiple providers in multiple offices for progress updates.

We feel this novel approach is aimed at reducing miscommunications, improving patient experiences, and simplifying scheduling appointments. The Hickman Specialist Group is a single location owner operated specialist practice. We are dedicated to focusing all of our attention to a single location. We are a group practice in the sense that we have a group of specialists in a single site, and not in the sense that we have multiple offices. Due to Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario practice naming guidelines all dental providers at the Hickman Specialist Group must be registered specialists.
Hickman Dentistry Professional Corporation:
You may notice this name on your invoice. Hickman Dentistry Professional Corporation is the registered name of the Hickman Specialist Group. The somewhat clinical tone is due to Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario naming requirements . In this case the "Hickman" refers to Dr. Sam Hickman. A corporate structure was developed to give associate specialists the ability to develop some roots in the practice.
